The magnificent Ragusa is in the Hyblaean Mountains region, about 90 kms south of Syracuse. Ragusa Ibla (the old town) has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002. The region is also well known for its farming products such as the Ragusano cheese, Monti Iblei’s Olive oil and the worldly famous chocolate of Modica. Not far from Ragusa is the Donnafugata castle. Built in the 14th century, it offers an impressive and elegant Venetian facade. The whole province of Ragusa stands out for its vibrant tradition of folklore and festivals. Try to join the feasts for one of the city patrons of the region, or one of the enogastronomic festivals, you’ll be amazed!
