Minor islands may be very different from each other in terms of origins, landscape and facilities, but they are all enchanting indeed.

Together with the heavenly Lampedusa and its world-famous Rabbits’ beach, the Aeolian Islands are the most famous among the minor islands of Sicily.

Their beauty is so striking and their landscapes are so fascinating that they have been listed among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites for their volcanic origin.

Stromboli and Vulcano islands actually both house an active volcano.

From Lipari, the biggest of the seven islands, with its white houses covered with scented bougainvillea .

Panarea, the famous and glamorous island with its picturesque little houses and fantastic bays, all the islands are graced with an utterly authentic Mediterranean atmosphere.

Their outline can be perceived from the north-eastern shores of Sicily, and all the islands can be easily reached from the port of Milazzo.

Sicilian Islands

The Aegadian archipelago, on the other hand, is located right in front of the westernmost coast of the Sicilian Islands and can be reached by taking a ferry or hydrofoil from the port of Trapani.

Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo are the Aegadian Islands, most famous for their transparent and clear sea as well as for the beauty of their shores and seabed.

These three islands played quite an important role throughout history and are nowadays some of the most renowned tourist destinations of western Sicily.

Sicilian Islands

Favignana, the main one, boasts idyllic bays and cliffs, and has a centuries-old tradition of tuna fishing: a taste of local red tuna is compulsory as well as a visit to the ancient Tonnara Florio.
